Velcro Pygmies for Supper?

Hello Hello everyone...since this week has been a week off from orientation I've had time to just chill out and hang out. Last night was probably one of my favorite nights in Auburn...and perhaps one of my favorite nights ever. I had the feeling it was going to be a good night so I was sure to take a nap after work yesterday...actually my nap was so glorious it was hard to pull myself out of bed, but the sound of my phone ringing woke me up. Yesterday I downloaded "Sweet Home Alabama" as my ringtone and set it to my phone, so now I get super excited when my phone rings...well more excited than usual. I actually learned another version of "Sweet Home Alabama" last night, but I'll get to that later.

So when I woke up from my nap I went to dinner with a bunch of the girls (Star, Nat, Doc, Katie Davis, Emily and Tracy) which anytime we all hang out it is a good time, but our plans for after dinner were what were really exciting. We were going to the Supper Club...which is a legendary bar/club/concert venue in Auburn that requires you to be a "member" aka pay 2 bucks for a membership card...hey I felt cool. The Supper Club was a cool place because it was like a hole in the wall dive bar, but had fun things like tacked to the ceiling and all over the place. The Supper Club also sold 32 oz drafts of bud light for $3.25...I was like shocked, one that would never be sold at home and two if they sold it, it would cost like $8. In the back outside section there is a old school bus called the shot bus...haha yes shot bus. So you climb on to the bus as if you were getting on it and walk to the back of the bus where a bar is set up and you order shots. The really cool part of the bus was that it was COVERED with people who had signed their names or drew pictures etc.

Anyway it was really exciting to go to Supper Club last night because the Velcro Pygmies were playing. I'm sure you're wonder what on earth is a Velcro Pygmie well they are an 80s cover band...like hardcore hairband. It was excellent, here's the link to their website if you want to check them out. http://www.velcropygmies.com/ These guys were way into it in their 80s outfits...tight tights, small shirts, big hair, lots of belts it was glorious. Anyway the Velcro Pygmies are well known and well loved in the south so the crowd was way into it. Let me just set the stage for you. You walk in supper club and to your right is like open space and two sets of stairs that go down like 4 steps to the "pit" for people to watch the show up close, on the small stage the band had put up 3 HUGE american flags, there were tons of small weird stuffed animals on their equipment, there were cowboy hats strewn on stage, and there were tons of huge lights and smoke machines. Well I didn't initially have high hopes for the band, but they were great. The did awesome covers, it actually sounded like the actual band (to all my QU Orientation people when they played "Livin' on a Prayer" I thought of all of you). The also have fun stage antics...well some were naughty, but pretty funny and they were like dance around playing their guitars and stuff all choreographed. Oh I forgot to mention that the lead singer's microphone had tons of scarves on it like Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. At one point they played "Sweet Home Alabama" and the whole place went NUTS...NUTS! I was like oh my this is really quite Alabama, but it was great. At that point when they were performing "Sweet Home Alabama" I was with the pit with everyone. (FYI Doc, Katie Davis, Emily, Emily - yes there are two, Tracy, Oliver, Dixon and one of Dixon's friends were with us....sidenote Oliver is a dancing machine haha), so like after the first verse or two of "Sweet Home Alabama" instead of singing "Sweet Home Alabama" everyone sang "F**k you Alabama" (in regards to University of Alabama while giving the middle finger) and then after that they's say "War Damn Eagle" while giving the number 1 gesture. It was quite fun I really enjoyed that part of the show the most. Anyway the show was excellent I had a total blast, they played ALLLL NIGHT...like we didn't get their til 11:30 and we left around 4am...it was pretty crazy. I hadn't been out that late in a whiiiiile.

Anyway besides enjoying the show I would wander around the Supper Club with my friends and just talk to random people...it's quite freeing to not know anyone and not care. So I started random conversations with women in the bathroom or people who noticed my accent and wanted to chat. It was awesome, and I wasn't expecting to see anyone I knew (besides the people I was with of course) because Hello I only know a handful of people down here, but I got to feel cool because I ran into Keven who was a former Head Camp Counselor back in '03 and now works for Auburn...so it was fun to randomly see someone because I haven't had that experience down here yet. Keven I hope you enjoyed that little shout out and I'm excited to go to Mamma G's with you soon!

But yeah great night lots of fun...I ended up sleeping in today which was wonderful, tonight we are hanging out...a bunch of us are gonna rent Centerstage and Mr. & Mrs. Smith while baking a Funfetti cake...holler. Anyway while I was on the Velvet Pygmies website I noticed they are playing again at the Supper Club on July 20th...which happens to be the last night I'll be in Auburn...so needless to say we'll be there and I'm pumped for it...it will be a good last night, but I don't want to think about it because I haven't been down here for a month yet and I still have almost 6 weeks left. But I gotta run Star and Nat are waiting for me.

WAR EAGLE!
Jenn
