Middle Names

Quick entry, I just wanted to share with everyone that this week I was SHOCKED to find out that it is a tradition in the south that when a women gets married they drop their middle name and change their middle name to their maiden name and then take their husbands last name. For example I would go from Jennifer Anne Johnson to Jennifer Johnson Depp (when I marry Johnny Depp clearly). So I thought I would spread that with the women of the north back home who are reading this and I would love ot hear your thoughts about this custom. To the southern ladies that are part of this tradition, I think that if it's something you truly believe in doing then that’s cool, who am I to judge...I was just surprised that it was such a common practice down here. Personally I am more in favor in carrying on names via your children...so like making Johnson the middle name of one of my kids or something.

And as I'm typing this right now I am mad because I know Star and I were taking about something else southern that shocked me that I wanted to blog about and she told me to write it on my "palm pilot" but I didn't have a pen. (For the record I do have an ACTUAL palm pilot, but don't use it often to jotting notes...I prefer to use my other "palm pilot" which is writing things in pen on my hand...it works very well...try it sometime). Anyway hopefully Star will remember what I was supposed to write about and I can blog about that later.

WAR EAGLE
Jennifer Anne Gerard Johnson
FYI: I actually have 2 middle names "Anne" and "Gerard" most people in my family on my mother's side have Gerard as a second middle name because St. Gerard is the patron saint of new mothers and it's kinda like paying respect to St. Gerard for having healthy children...so yet again another reason why I wouldn't want to change my original middle name(s).

Oh and another fun story, my friend Erin's parents didn't want to give her a middle name when she was born, so when they were doing the birth certificate paperwork they put "none" for middle name...and due to confusion or misinterpretation her middle name is actually None..so it's a random fun fact that I thought of when I heard about all this middle name changing stuff because Erin's middle name of None is such a fun unique thing that she would never want to change.

I actually like that middle name thing. I would definitely do that because 1) i HATE my middle name and 2) since there aren't any guys in my family, my last name will die off when i get married so I would want to keep the Hiland legacy going if I could. ily
