Ok I wouldn't say everything is bigger, but things are more spread out because there are tons and tons of farms and other scary places like that in which animals and other creatures live. Anyway I'm still in Texas at my dad's but I thought I would keep everyone posted on my trip thus far.
So Friday after session 4 wrap up Natalie, Eric & myself road tripped over to Atlanta...which by the way was only like an hour and ten minutes away I was surprised (well the airport). Anyway we had a good time singing and bopping around in the car. So they drop me off and I go to do the self check in thing by the American Airlines counter. So I swipe one of my credit cards and then type in the airport to which I am flying and next thing I know my boarding pass says that I am scheduled to board my flight at 5:50 which was within the 10 minutes. I was so confused because I printed out my flight stuff and I thought I was on a 7:30 flight. So luckily I was able to get through security and stuff really quick. So while I'm waiting to board I pull out my printed copy of my flight info and see that I was right my flight is a 7:30 flight, so I go to the ticket counter confused and they tell me to go on this flight that boarding. So I go to hand in my ticket to board and it says something...well it turns out there was a J. Johnson who was on that flight and for whatever reason it even though they had already checked it and stuff the ticket kiosk thought I was that person and printed me their ticket. So they were gonna try and let me fly standby for that flight since I was already there, but that flight was packed so I ended up waiting an hour or so for the flight I was supposed to be on, which was fine...it just hate confusion, oh the downfall of a common name. Therefore to any men out there reading my blog with uncommon last names..who wants to get married ASAP? (Kidding...I may be spending my summer in Alabama, but I am in no rush whatsoever to get married...esp since most of the people who get married down here live in an apartment that their PARENTS pay for and the bride to be's engagement ring is often paid for by the groom to be's parents...guess that workstudy check can't quite cut paying for a diamond...if you can't pay for a ring and/or apartment then isn't that a clue that you shouldn't be getting married so young??? okay enough on that).
So I get to Texas Friday night at like 9:30PM and it's like 10000 degrees out. The flight was fine, except for the man next to me who kept trying to talk to me despite my ipod being on and I was reading, no to mention that he smelled of liquor and nicotine gum. So I end up going to dinner with my dad at this fun Mexican restaurant and had some yummy food. I was tired that when we got back to his apartment I pretty much went right to bed. Saturday I got to sleep in til 11ish yay! I had planned to lay out for a but but it was sprinkling out, so my dad and I went to a cute place for lunch called souper salad (Star I remember you telling me about this place...very good food). Then we headed into downtown Dallas which was only about 5-10 minutes from where my dad lived. Driving back from the airport the night before I got to see Dallas all lit up, it was quite beautiful. So anyway we go into Dallas and go to the 6th Floor JFK Museum located in the Dealey Plaza Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK. I was particularly interested in going because junior year of college was the 40th anniversary of JFK's assassination and in 3 of my classes I was doing JFK related things...so that semester I ended up writing over 200 pages on JFK. I watched a ton of documentaries, did a lot of research, saw a lot of graphic photographs and films from his assassination and autopsy. So I was very intrigued to go. Once we parked the fight place we went to was the "grassy knoll." From the knoll you got a clear view of the 6th floor window and there were also two "X" marks in the middle of Elm Street to denote where JFK and the motorcade were shot at (sidenote JFK and the motorcade were shot at with 3 bullets, but there were only 2 "X" marks I don't why). It was pretty intense, especially since the area surrounding Elm St. looks prety much the same from the Zapruder film of when JFK was shot. So we head into the Museum which charged $10 admission fee and was SWARMING with people, I guess because it was a Saturday. The building is not an administration building of some sort, but the museum is on the 6th floor and has been left in pretty much the same condition as it was in 1963. It was pretty intense in there...lots of pictures, artifacts, written stories, videos, etc adorned the walls of the museum. It was all very interesting and emotional. I would probably say the most intense part of the museum was the glass enclosed corner of the museum which sealed of the window where Oswald sat and had it gun propped. In the enclosed corner are the actual boxes set up exactly as they were that day. The floors, the walls, and most of the windows are intact (the actual window that Oswald shot from {or for those of you that believe another theory...allegedly shot from} was removed due to fear that it would have been damaged...so the actual window was on display and the window that is in the corner where he shot from is a replacement window). There was so much info in the museum on the life, death, and afterlife of JFK as well as Oswald, Jack Ruby, LBJ and the American people of the 1960s. It was fascinating to go there; we probably spent about an hour and a half there. When we left I went back onto Elm Street and stood on the 1st "X" (I was careful not to get hit by a car because it is a heavily traveled street, I waited for a red light) and I looked up at the window and if you looked closely you could see the boxes propped up like Oswald had it (I took pictures on fears..they'll be on my webshots soon). From everything I've read or watched about the JFK assassination I personally believe that Oswald was the lone gunman, he had a perfect shot from that window...but then again conspiracy theories are much more fun.
After the museum my dad and I headed to the Grapevine Mills mall which was HUGE...we spent like 5 hours there. I definitely did some damage, but hey I hadn't gone shopping in a while. After the mall we grabbed a bite at Sonic (hey I hadn't been there in a while) then we went to the movies to go see the DaVinci Code. I thought the movie was pretty good, but book was better. I kept getting distracted by the difference between the book and movie, but overall I found it to be interesting and Tom Hanks didn't annoy me as much as I thought he would have.
I will wait til another blog entry to write about what I've been up to today.
